Untangling Thought Loops When Your Mind Learned to Stay Ready
For many Black women, overthinking isn’t anxiety; it’s preparedness.
We replay conversations to avoid harm. We anticipate outcomes to stay safe. Our minds stay active because rest didn’t always feel available.
But constant mental vigilance is exhausting.
Mental wellness doesn’t come from controlling thoughts; it comes from building safety.
Try this practice:
Name the thought: This is a protection thought.
Thank your mind for trying to help.
Gently redirect your attention to your body or breath.
Boundaries are mental wellness. Limiting emotional labor, news intake, and constant availability matters.
You don’t need to stay alert to deserve safety.
You deserve rest even when nothing is resolved.
Be Well, Sharea
